Business And Athletics Finding a Career that Fits
I am lucky, I have the opposite of a “thankless” job; I am in a profession where my clients are extremely thankful for what I and my team do for them. Helping families, individuals and businesses build and preserve wealth has been my passion and purpose for over a decade. However, I wasn’t born with this calling. It took decades of life lessons to get clear on why this is my chosen profession and ultimate life purpose.
My mother was a single mother raising two young children, struggling to make ends-meet for me and my younger sister. I can’t ever remember a time when our lack of financial resources wasn’t an issue or the “elephant in the room.” I was always uncomfortable thinking about money as it brought negative connotations with it for our family. I wondered for years if I had my own financial PTSD, never knowing if it would alleviate itself or if it would forever be a dark cloud over our heads.
After graduating from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island, I began my first job working for the school in alumni relations. Yet that was not to be my course for long, as one of my first days in the office I approached a former graduate named Peter Klay regarding his giving back to the University. I may have helped Peter become a more active donor, but I also found myself intrigued by his profession in the financial services sector.
Peter explained to me the meaning of his work in the lives of others. He described using his knowledge to empower people by educating them about how money works, creating for them their own unique sense of security and freedom. He was the “voice to give others knowledge” and a roadmap to see, protect and build their personal financial economy. Soon after meeting Peter, I became more knowledgeable – and subsequently, more comfortable and empowered. With Peter’s coaching, I was able to take control of building my financial security and freedom. I decided to change course and become a financial advisor to help others realize their true financial potential.
Over the past ten plus years, I have dived deep into the world of financial planning. I speak nationwide about the benefits of building and preserving wealth through following 3 key rules –protect, save and behave. My profession has become my purpose and my passion, and I know that my knowledge is helping others find the security and freedom that all people deserve.
